Free Training
These training opportunities are free to staff of non-government service providers funded through Disability Services Queensland.
Accredited Training
This training is fully accredited and participants will obtain a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for those Units of Competency successfully completed. These units can be credited toward a future full qualification.
Key outcomes anticipated from the training include:
- Participants will gain knowledge and skills identified as areas of critical success for the industry.
- Benefits to staff both professionally and personally
- Building confidence and self esteem
- Improving employment prospects
- Fostering peer support networks
Course Duration
Training will be delivered over 3-4 days. Training will usually be divided into 2 blocks with a lapse of about 4 weeks between training blocks.

Courses will be delivered locally throughout Queensland in each of the DSQ regions:
- Far North Queensland
- North Queensland
- Mackay/Whitsunday
- Fitzroy/Central West Queensland
- Wide Bay/Burnett
- Darling downs/South West Queensland
- Sunshine Coast
- Greater Brisbane
- Moreton
- Gold Coast
Courses are currently scheduled for regional centers. However, according to demand, courses may be delivered anywhere in Queensland, including rural and remote areas. Therefore, if you are interested in accessing this training, please inform us of your preferred location and time.

Customised Training for Organisations
Bookings for this training are open to individuals and organisations.
Directions Australia can schedule a course specifically for your organisation.
Training can be delivered onsite at your facilities, at a time to suit your staff scheduling. Course content can also be customised to incorporate your organisation’s actual work practices, and meet your staffs learning needs.
Smaller organistions, particularly those in more rural and remote areas, are also encouraged to network with other organisations in their region to request that a course be delivered locally.
Funding for Release of Staff
Additional funding is available through DSQ to subsidise the costs of releasing staff to attend training. This in the form of a grant, applied for and paid directly to organisations. Course Details
The training programs, which are funded through Disability Services Queensland (DSQ): Strengthening Non-Government Organisations – Workforce Development Initiative, are listed as follows:
1 - Supporting People with Complex Needs (Specialist Disability Training)
This course provides disability support workers with specialist skills to support people with complex needs. Participants will learn how to utilise specialist communication skills and strategies to manage challenging behaviour.
2 - Information Technology Management (Management Program)
This management program provides knowledge and skills to effectively manage an organisation's finances, accounts and resources, coordinate information systems, and meet statutory and organisational information requirements.
3 - Community Services Management (Management Program)
Course participants will gain knowledge and skills to effectively carry out a management role in a community service organisation. Learning topics include: coordinate the provision of services and programs, coordinate the work environment, coordinate disability work, manage organisational change, and review and develop business plans.
4 - Managing Occupational Health and Safety Requirements in the Workplace (Management Program)
This program is designed for potential managers, OHS committee members, and OHS representatives. Participants will learn how to implement and monitor OHS policies and procedures, and strategies to manage risk in the work place.
